Bias, Lies, And The Status Quo
The mainstream media is not nor has it ever been a “supplier” of news. In fact, the MSM is instead a “washer” of news, a turbine of scrubbing sandpaper and soap suds designed to remove those “dirty” bits of information that contradict the status quo. News wires like the AP or Reuters remove about 90% of the truth from their reporting, or combine the truth with biased opinion in an attempt to minimize its effect. Cable news then takes that information and skims out even more valuable data. The average MSM watching pop-culture zombie-bot is probably only exposed to about 1% truth in a single day, if he even pays attention to that much. For those people who couldn’t care less about anything beyond their immediate existence, 1% is more than enough. However, quite a few of us are aware of our surroundings, and extremely unsatisfied with this arrangement.
The mistake many Americans make is that they assume the corporate news is a “service”, a service to the public. It is not. The MSM attends to the interests of its shareholders and its CEO’s, and nothing more. The mainstream media is not even required by law to be factual in its reporting of information unless it is involved in defamation, and even those checks and balances are falling by the wayside. The saga of journalists Jane Akre and Steve Wilson and their fight against Fox and Monsanto’s suppression of their story on rBGH growth hormone’s cancer causing effects proved that the higher rungs of our legal system are completely cooperative in the MSM’s attempts to censor pertinent information, or even to lie outright:

Those alternative analysts who somehow slip through the corporate news net only seem to find ridicule and contempt for the facts they offer. In the video below, Peter Schiff attempts to warn the public back in 2006 of the impending market crash and housing crisis, laying out exactly how the mortgage collapse would commence. Instead of examining his logic rationally, the Fox News pundits laugh and shout over him. I wonder if these clowns are laughing now:

The constant attacks by the MSM (from Fox to MSNBC) on any Constitutionalist movement or organization, from the Tea Party to Oathkeepers, or any anti-establishment ideology period, have revealed a complete disregard for the objectivity journalists are supposed to pride themselves on. Ridiculous and completely unsupported accusations against Liberty Movement candidates like Ron Paul and Rand Paul, ranging from racism to extremism and terrorism, are now the norm. And they wonder why everyone is turning their televisions off!? How long can you watch a bunch of overgrown children in suits sling schoolyard taunts from satellite to satellite against honorable men who are barely given the chance to defend themselves in an equal forum? Perhaps my attention span is short, or maybe some people are easily entertained, but most of us get bored with this kind of pathetic display rather quickly.
The bottom line is that the MSM is working towards the goal of suppression, not revelation, and Americans are beginning to understand this. Why bother watching a 10 minute interview between MSNBC and Ron Paul or Rand Paul with odd time delays, video edits, Alinsky tactics, and circular logic? We learn nothing because the interview was not designed by MSNBC to explore the truth; it was designed to undermine it. Laughably, it is the establishment media that has called for regulations and gatekeepers to be placed on the alternative media due to a lack of “accountability” in the case of web news:

What the hell does the MSM know about accountability? Or even fact based reporting? These people are a disgrace to journalism and they have the audacity to demand professionalism from the alternative media?! I can’t possibly count how many inaccurate or fabricated mainstream stories I have covered and dissected in my years writing for the Liberty Movement. Where is all the outrage and indignance over those fallacies? Which news source is truly guilty of duplicity?
Web media is not in need of “gatekeepers”. Our readers should be capable of checking our information and deciding for themselves whether it is reliable or disingenuous. In the case of the MSM, we ARE the gatekeepers! They obviously don’t hold their own reporting to any sincere criteria…
Citizen Journalists, Citizen Justice
The alternative media represents an incredible paradigm shift, not only in the way we take part in the spread of information, but also in the way we perceive our role in world events. No longer are you and I confined to the guidelines and rules of the elitist system, a system which is ultimately intended to harm us, not help us. Today, we have tools at our disposal which render the old constrictive methods of news distribution completely obsolete. Today, right at their fingertips, each and every American has the chance to actively contribute to the greater pool of knowledge that eventually leads to the death of deceptions and the promotion of social progress.
Nothing is perfect, including the web. There will always be disinformation to sort through, regardless of any new technology or regulation. This is part of living in a free society. We do not rely on government or corporate entities to set the standards of truth, we set those standards for ourselves, and if we fail, it will only be because we set our standards too low.
I find it interesting that establishment proponents always use the proclamation of the “greater good” as a pretext for suppressing anything which threatens their power structure. But let’s think about this for a second; what is the greater good in this instance? Is it in the interest of the greater good to control and censor the internet because an inaccurate news story MIGHT be spread there? To impose “protections” on people because they are supposedly too lazy or too stupid? Or do we find greater good in free information, and developing a public mature enough to research the facts for themselves? Is it really better to maintain a monopolistic system of news that has been proven time after time to be faulty, propaganda driven, and shamelessly oversimplified? Or, is it to our benefit to provide another outlet, a more level playing field, and see which one better fills the needs of the citizenry? When we stop and consider what the actual “greater good” would be, we find that it does not at all coincide with the desires of the establishment.
If we need anything at this point in history, it is the citizen journalist. We need not one corporately sponsored message, but millions of independent voices all searching for the truth in their own unique way. Only then can we retrieve our American identity, and achieve a legitimate sense of justice in this country. Great changes begin with a revolution of ideas, an individual will, and a multitude of open eyes. The internet is a catalyst for such an event, the kind that occurs perhaps once in a millennium. We cannot allow it to be vilified by swindlers or dominated by tyrants under any circumstance, otherwise, we will lose our initiative, and along with it, our voice.

The Mainstream Media is obsolete.

The progression of human society relies upon the steady distribution of information. The quality of that information, its accuracy and its honesty, determines the overall health of the cultures we create. When a source of information becomes compromised by unhealthy political ambition, social dogma, or the strangling hands of elitism, it’s like a poison well, spreading plague and pestilence throughout the nation, or even the world. Widely disseminated lies inspire delirium and madness in the masses faster than typhoid fever.
In America today, the person searching for a pure source of truth in the media inevitably stumbles across many poison wells.
Even if they are not yet actively pursuing alternative outlets of information, many people are aware, at least intuitively, when someone is trying to swindle them. You can present us with the assurance of delectable sirloin steaks on ornate silver platters, but if our faces are struck with the sickly stench of decay, we aren’t going to bite. Through its dishonesty and its distinct lack of substance, the mainstream media has turned up more noses than any putrid slab of unkempt beef ever could. The raw data is merciless in regards to the implosion of the MSM…
Top providers of print media (newspapers), including such “luminaries” as the Washington Post and the New York Times, have plunged in readership over the past several years. Last year, overall daily circulation for newspapers fell 10.6%, followed by another 8.7% drop so far this year:

Rupert Murdoch’s news empire which includes the Wall Street Journal, Fox News, The New York Post, and Hulu, has been unable to draw enough readers and enough ad revenue to its websites to maintain profits. Murdoch’s response has been to blame google and others for “stealing his content, threatening to pull his sites from search engines altogether and erect “paywalls” (charging just to view the sites):

MSNBC, the slimy crust at the very bottom of the mainstream media cesspool, now ranks 25th in television news. Its small audience is dwarfed by many online alternative news sources.
Fox appears to be at the head of the pack as far as ratings are concerned, and this is likely due to the network’s willingness to allow at least a small amount of fact to leak through its barrier of disinformation, but, ALL mainstream networks are in serious trouble. Blowhards like Bill O’Reilly rake in around a million viewers or more per show on average, and this seems like a substantial audience, however, when one examines the demographics of TV news viewers, one finds himself rather unimpressed.
According to Neilson, the average Fox News viewer is age 65 or older! Not that people over the age of 60 don’t count, they most certainly do, but at what point do we acknowledge that a massive portion of the American demographic (ages 25-54), a couple generations at least, have little to no interest in what Fox has to say? Now, so called “progressives” try to play the false left/right paradigm game with numbers like this, claiming that the conservative Fox (which is establishment run and not truly conservative at all) is an outmoded news source for dinosaurs. Actually, left leaning media has similar problems attracting anyone younger than 50.

Not only this, but as the recession takes its toll, it is becoming more obvious that cost cutting consumers are much more willing to shut off their cable than they are to turn of their internet service. We in the alternative media still reference mainstream sources on occasion, because it represents the establishment (and often globalist) ideology. If that ideology contradicts itself within its own information venues, those in alternative media have to be ready to point it out.
Where did the MSM go wrong? Fifteen years ago, they seemed absolutely unstoppable. Their ability to dominate information flow was unparalleled! How could such a behemoth be crippled by a bunch of amateur journalists and (*gasp*) bloggers? Let’s examine the reasons why so many Americans have now placed their trust in once underground news sources above the ramblings of corporate pundits.
The Truth Is A Right, Not A Product
The news is first and foremost a function of social progress, it is NOT meant to be a prepackaged widget built generically on an assembly line and sold to the masses at an outrageous markup. The mechanically domineering corporatist philosophy does not mix with the natural and organic flow of information distribution. It simply goes against everything human communication engenders. Our ability to share knowledge cannot be impeded without causing cultural anxiety. That anxiety often translates to a desperate need for an alternative view, even if we do not recognize what inspired our need in the first place.
The corporate media has been highly successful in the past, yet just as corrupt, so why didn’t Americans turn away from them decades ago? It wasn’t because Americans didn’t want to. The MSM has global backers with billions of dollars in capital at their disposal. They have advertising budgets the size of some small countries, and armies of marketers. Channels promote and cross promote each other even though they pretend to stand for different ideologies, feeding each other in a frenzy of inbred sponsorship. But none of this means much in the end. The only advantage the MSM ever really enjoyed was that it had no competition! (Remember, whether you watch Fox, or CNN, you’re still only getting one point of view; the globalist point of view) And, as with any company that has no competition, the public is forced to consume its product without the benefit of a comparison. The internet offered a medium free from corporate dominance, and thus, an opportunity. Look at how quickly Americans dropped the MSM the moment there was finally another option on the table, one that alternative journalists and analysts were well equipped to offer.
The “Copyleft” methods of the alternative media have also bewildered the establishment. The MSM has always seen news as a revenue source, a commodity, something to be guarded and caged. Look at Rupert Murdoch’s hasty bid to paywall his websites. The alternative media, in contrast, has treated news as a right first, and a revenue source second. The goal of web news is not necessarily to make money, its goal is to get the truth out as quickly as possible, to as many people as possible, as accurately as possible, and that is why we dominate over the MSM. We allow the sharing and re-sharing of our articles, analysis, and films. We challenge our skeptics to check our information, to put our ideas under a microscope (and they always do, rarely finding any concrete fault in our reporting, often reverting to strawman arguments instead). We explore the facts and possibilities the MSM is designed to avoid.
Imagine you are stricken with cancer, and are confronted by two men. The first is a smarmy sales associate with clammy palms who offers you a couple of aspirin in flashy packaging and unverifiable guarantees charging you inflated fees and no refunds. The second man offers you a cure at no charge with no flash, asking only for your support (word-of-mouth or monetary) if and when the cure is proven effective. Which guy are you going to shake hands with?
The “sharing method” appears at odds with traditional free market capitalism, but in reality, it compliments capitalism perfectly. As I stated, information is not a product, but insight can be. The public today does not seek out “news”, they seek out intelligent and concise analysis on the news. They look for an honest presentation of the facts, along with the ability to show the relevant connections between those facts. They want the whole truth, not fabricated processed tidbits. Not establishment talking points read from a teleprompter. If the MSM knew how to do this, or even wanted to do this, they could easily make money in grand ole’ American fashion, but they avoid giving the people what they want at all costs despite the potential profits. Why is that?

Worse than Berni Madoff.....Gangster Incorporated!
I am wondering when bank stocks will take a BIG hit. I do know that one (a San Francisco hedge fund) is betting against Bank of Americas shares. With foreclosuregate, many of these too big to fail banks will have to buy back these toxic mortgages.
And they should.
I am sure that many of these well educated banksters knew exactly what they were selling, especially as they packaged these mortgages into bundles and swapped them as quickly as they could urging the world to buy up as much of these mortgage backed securities. Quick swaps were made and trillions of dollars were pocketed and the victim had no idea what he just bought until recently. These banksters and sellers acted like dirty old used car sales men and made off with billions like Berny Madoff. When the tax payer had to bail out these gangsters and all these victims around the world were left penniless, is it not about time to hold these gangsters accountable for their premeditated fraud.
Do not give me this too big to fail crap. That is a smokescreen to cover up true intentions.
Pensions will suffer all around the world as a result of the subprime mess as well as peoples retirement accounts. Meanwhile our too big to fail banks are paying out trillions in bonuses, stock options, lofty vacations, and private residents and jets to their CEOs. Is it any wonder why there is SUCH a massive disparity between the rich and the poor. It is because the poor are essentially taxed into oblivion to support these fraudsters and support their greed.
Yes! You bet!
These sellers of these toxic securities ARE obligated to repurchase these mortgages BECAUSE of misrepresentations such as overstatements of borrowers income and inflated appraisals. But interestingly, some investors have been stymied in their efforts to examine individual loan files by mortgage-bond trustees, which administer the securities.

I am sure that many of these well educated banksters knew exactly what they were selling, especially as they packaged these mortgages into bundles and swapped them as quickly as they could urging the world to buy up as much of these mortgage backed securities. Quick swaps were made and trillions of dollars were pocketed and the victim had no idea what he just bought until recently. These banksters and sellers acted like dirty old used car sales men and made off with billions like Berny Madoff. When the tax payer had to bail out these gangsters and all these victims around the world were left penniless, is it not about time to hold these gangsters accountable for their premeditated fraud.
Do not give me this too big to fail crap. That is a smokescreen to cover up true intentions.
Pensions will suffer all around the world as a result of the subprime mess as well as peoples retirement accounts. Meanwhile our too big to fail banks are paying out trillions in bonuses, stock options, lofty vacations, and private residents and jets to their CEOs. Is it any wonder why there is SUCH a massive disparity between the rich and the poor. It is because the poor are essentially taxed into oblivion to support these fraudsters and support their greed.

These sellers of these toxic securities ARE obligated to repurchase these mortgages BECAUSE of misrepresentations such as overstatements of borrowers income and inflated appraisals. But interestingly, some investors have been stymied in their efforts to examine individual loan files by mortgage-bond trustees, which administer the securities.

The United States has lost its gold-plated triple-A rating -- in the eyes of credit traders, at least.
U.S. sovereign debt was the third-worst performer in a closely watched derivatives market during the third quarter, CMA said Tuesday in its quarterly review of global sovereign credit risk.
Not a vote of confidence
The cost of insuring against a default on U.S. government bonds via so-called credit default swaps rose 28% in the quarter ended Sept. 30, the firm said.
That puts the United States' third-quarter performance behind only two other nations, both of which are struggling with the early stages of sovereign debt crises: Ireland, whose CDS prices rocketed 72% to a record amid growing questions about the costs of a massive bank bailout, and Portugal, whose costs jumped 30%.
What's more, the decline leaves U.S. debt trading at an implied rating of double-A-plus for the first time in memory.
Despite building worries about its financial outlook, the U.S. had traded in recent quarters in line with its triple-A rating from S&P and Moody's. But some skeptics have been arguing the U.S. is overrated, and that argument now seems to be gaining steam.
"You can see an indication of concern about the easing course the Fed is likely to continue on," said Sean Egan, who runs the Egan-Jones credit rating agency in Haverford, Pa. "There's a number of items that are going to be difficult to reverse as we get down that road, starting with the dramatic underfunding of state pension funds."
The shift comes at a head-spinning time for the U.S. economy. The government has run two straight trillion-dollar-plus budget deficits, with more to come. Yet Treasury bonds are trading at record-low yields, reflecting questions about the economic outlook.
Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve is considering another round of major asset purchases in a policy observers have dubbed QE2, for the central bank's second attempt at quantitative easing – a bid to boost economic activity by expanding the size of the Fed's balance sheet.
Comments by Fed chief Ben Bernanke and other policymakers have sent the dollar tumbling to its lowest level since January and helped light a fuse under commodity prices. Those remarks have had the effect of making even weak economic numbers look bullish, by suggesting the Fed will ride in if jobs data, for instance, get too ugly.
The rising price of insuring against a default on U.S. government debt is of a piece with these moves and suggests the full tab for the profligacy of the past decade has yet to be presented.
To be sure, a default on U.S. debt remains a remote possibility. Even after the third quarter's runup, it costs just $48,000 annually to insure for five years against a default on $10 million worth of Treasury securities. That's a tenth the going rate on Irish debt and about one-eighth the price prevailing in Portugal.
And at that, CDS spreads are far from a pure read on default risk. A report by rating agency Fitch on Tuesday noted that credit default swaps performed "unevenly" during the credit crisis in predicting defaults by companies and other private-sector debt issuers.
"While there are notable instances in which CDS spread widening preceded eventual defaults, there have also been numerous false positives where spreads ramped up dramatically even though few if any defaults ensued," Fitch wrote.
Even so, the third-quarter rise in its CDS spreads knocks the U.S. out of the triple-A league it has long shared with the likes of Germany, Switzerland and the Nordic countries, all of which regularly run trade surpluses and have relatively manageable debt positions.
It's early to say there's no going back, but our political leaders certainly have their work cut out for them – without any particular sign they're up to the task.

This will end in tears. The Obama hysteria is not merely embarrassing to witness, it is itself contributory to the scale of the disaster that is coming. What we are experiencing, in the deepening days of a global depression, is the desperate suspension of disbelief by people of intelligence – la trahison des clercs – in a pathetic effort to hypnotise themselves into the delusion that it will be all right on the night. It will not be all right.
We have been here before. In the spring of 1997, to be precise, when a charismatic, young prime minister entered Downing Street, cheered by children bussed in for the occasion waving plastic Union Jacks. A very few of us at that time incurred searing reproaches for denouncing the Great Charlatan (as I have always denominated Tony Blair) and dissenting from the public hysteria. Three times a deluded Britain elected that transparent fraud. Yesterday, when national bankruptcy became a formal reality, we reaped the bitter harvest of the Blair/Brown imposture.
The burnt child, contrary to conventional wisdom, does not fear the fire. After the Blair experience there is no excuse for anybody in Britain falling for Obama. Yet today, in this country, even some of those who remained sane during the emotional spasm of the Diana aberration are pumping the air for Princess Barack. At a time of gross economic and geopolitical instability throughout the Western world, this is beyond irresponsibility.
To anyone who kept his head, the string of Christmas cracker mottoes booming through the public address system on Washington’s National Mall can only excite scepticism. It is crucial to recall the reality that lies behind the rhetoric. Denouncing “those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents” comes ill from a man whose flagship legislation, the Freedom of Choice Act, will impose abortion, including partial-birth abortion, on every state in the Union. It seems the era of Hope is to be inaugurated with a slaughter of the innocents.
Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan is like one of those toxic packages traded by bankers: it camouflages many unaffordable gifts to his client state. With a federal deficit already at $1.2 trillion, Obama wants to squander $825 billion (which will undoubtedly mushroom to more than $1 trillion) on creating 600,000 more government jobs and a further 459,000 in “green energy” (useless wind turbines and other Heath-Robinson contraptions favoured by Beltway environmentalists).
It is frightening to think there is a real possibility that the entire world economy could go into complete meltdown and famine kill millions. Yet Western – and British – commentators are cocooned in a warm comfort zone of infatuation with America’s answer to Neil Kinnock. We should be long past applauding politicians of any hue: they got us into this mess. The best deserve a probationary opportunity to prove themselves, the worst should be in jail.
It is questionable whether the present political system can survive the coming crisis. Whatever the solution, teenage swooning sentimentality over a celebrity cult has no part in it. The most powerful nation on earth is confronting its worst economic crisis under the leadership of its most extremely liberal politician, who has virtually no experience of federal politics. That is not an opportunity but a catastrophe.
These are frank, even ungracious, words: they have the one merit that, unlike almost everything else written today about Obama, they will not require to be eaten in the future.

Government plans to seize private pension plans!
Can you believe this arrogance.........
The government is preparing to seize the private 401(k) pensions of millions of Americans while enforcing an additional 5 per cent payroll tax as part of a new bailout program that will empower the Social Security Administration to redistribute pension funds in a frightening example of big government gone wild.
Public pension plans have been so aggressively looted already by the government that cities and counties face a $574 billion funding gap, according to a CNBC report.
That black hole is set to be filled by a new proposal that will “fairly” distribute taxpayer-funded pensions to everyone, by confiscating the private wealth of millions of Americans. Its proponents express staggering arrogance in thinking that they can just steal money people have worked for decades to accrue as if it’s their own.
Not only would the government confiscate 401(k) pensions, it would also impose a mandatory 5 per cent payroll tax payable by everyone, according to a hearing chaired last week by Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee.
“This would, of course, be a sister government ponzi scheme working in tandem with Social Security, the primary purpose being to give big government politicians additional taxpayer funds to raid to pay for their out-of-control spending,” writes Connie Hair.
The hearing was a platform for advocates of Guaranteed Retirement Accounts (GRAs), a program authored by Teresa Ghilarducci, professor of economic policy analysis at the New School for Social Research in New York. Back in November 2008, Ghilarducci testified to Congress that 401(k)s and IRAs should be confiscated and converted into universal Guaranteed Retirement Accounts (GRAs) managed by the Social Security Administration.
“You don’t hold hearings on something you don’t intend to do,” points out the Market Ticker blog. “I hate it when I’m right. I hate it even more when tens of millions of Americans are going to get reamed to pay for the crimes of the handful on Wall Street, and their crony enablers in Washington DC.”
The GRAs would be enforced by means of a mandatory savings tax equating to 5 per cent of an individual’s annual paycheck deposited to the GRA. Social Security and Medicare taxes would still be payable, employers would no longer would be able to write off their contributions and capital gains would be taxable year-on-year. In addition, workers could bequeath only half of their account balances to their heirs, unlike full balances from existing 401(k) and IRA accounts.
During a Seattle radio interview in October 2008, Ghilarducci explained the motive behind the plan, stating, “I’m just rearranging the tax breaks that are available now for 401(k)s and spreading – spreading the wealth” (emphasis mine).
However, as we painfully learned in the immediate aftermath of the original $700 million dollar bailout, which was originally sold on the basis that it would be used to pay off bad debt, governments that propose “spreading the wealth” under socialist-style financial reforms almost always collect the wealth under the pretext of being the saviors before greedily hoarding it all for themselves.
The GRA program is being pushed by the Economic Policy Institute, an organization housed on the third floor of the building occupied by the George Soros-funded Center for American Progress. The Center for American Progress is a think tank headed by Bill Clinton’s former chief of staff John D. Podesta, who was also head of Barack Obama’s presidential transition team after the 2008 election.
In preparing to seize private pensions, the United States is going the same way as Argentinean government, which in 2008 nationalized the country’s private pension plans, known as AFJPs, confiscating the wealth of millions.
“We have no doubt that here the right to private property is being violated. Not just for us but for society and the world, this is a clear confiscation,” said opposition Radical Party’s Ernesto Sanz at the time.
How will Americans react to having not only their wealth but their nest egg for future generations brazenly confiscated by the government in one fell swoop? If this doesn’t prompt widespread rioting and civil disobedience in America on behalf of the besieged middle class then nothing will.
Don’t be under any illusions, if you don’t have a private pension and think this won’t affect you – think again. Once the pretext has been created that the state can simply confiscate privately earned wealth, they can then come after anything, your gold, your home, your kids and eventually your very freedom. Once the vampire of big government gets a taste for blood, the teeth will only sink in further, and America’s resemblance to third world tyrannies will rapidly accelerate.

America Being Torn Down and Rebuilt
Greenspan, in a September 4, 1998 speech at the University of California, Berkley, informed his audience that the traditional American way, the now discredited Capitalism, is "being torn down and rebuilt." On December 4, 2008, another of the establishment’s favored pied-piper spokesmen, columnist George Will, wrote that Schumpeter’s "creative destruction" was underway, with the economy necessarily "losing tens of millions of jobs." Both Mr. Greenspan and Mr. Will are big cheerleaders for the debilitating process of creative destruction.
Even conservative columnist Thomas Sowell, an avid supporter of the Rothschild/Limbaugh/Reagan/Bush/Cheney/Rockefeller Free Trade agenda, joined in this historically corrupt quest for economic pick-pocketing, writing on December 17, 2008, that "creative destruction"—a good thing, he insists—means that American automakers and other manufacturers will just have to die and be replaced, having “outlived their usefulness.”
What of the millions of American workers left destitute? So what, say the "creative destruction" wrecking crew. "All’s well that ends well."
But, just how will it all end? What is the end-game of this destructive process? The often overlooked fact is that Schumpeter was a Marxist! The government is preparing to seize the private 401(k) pensions of millions of Americans while enforcing an additional 5 per cent payroll tax as part of a new bailout program that will empower the Social Security Administration to redistribute pension funds in a frightening example of big government gone wild.
Public pension plans have been so aggressively looted already by the government that cities and counties face a $574 billion funding gap, according to a CNBC report.
That black hole is set to be filled by a new proposal that will “fairly” distribute taxpayer-funded pensions to everyone, by confiscating the private wealth of millions of Americans. Its proponents express staggering arrogance in thinking that they can just steal money people have worked for decades to accrue as if it’s their own.
Not only would the government confiscate 401(k) pensions, it would also impose a mandatory 5 per cent payroll tax payable by everyone, according to a hearing chaired last week by Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee.
“This would, of course, be a sister government ponzi scheme working in tandem with Social Security, the primary purpose being to give big government politicians additional taxpayer funds to raid to pay for their out-of-control spending,” writes Connie Hair.
The hearing was a platform for advocates of Guaranteed Retirement Accounts (GRAs), a program authored by Teresa Ghilarducci, professor of economic policy analysis at the New School for Social Research in New York. Back in November 2008, Ghilarducci testified to Congress that 401(k)s and IRAs should be confiscated and converted into universal Guaranteed Retirement Accounts (GRAs) managed by the Social Security Administration.
“You don’t hold hearings on something you don’t intend to do,” points out the Market Ticker blog. “I hate it when I’m right. I hate it even more when tens of millions of Americans are going to get reamed to pay for the crimes of the handful on Wall Street, and their crony enablers in Washington DC.”
The GRAs would be enforced by means of a mandatory savings tax equating to 5 per cent of an individual’s annual paycheck deposited to the GRA. Social Security and Medicare taxes would still be payable, employers would no longer would be able to write off their contributions and capital gains would be taxable year-on-year. In addition, workers could bequeath only half of their account balances to their heirs, unlike full balances from existing 401(k) and IRA accounts.
During a Seattle radio interview in October 2008, Ghilarducci explained the motive behind the plan, stating, “I’m just rearranging the tax breaks that are available now for 401(k)s and spreading – spreading the wealth” (emphasis mine).
However, as we painfully learned in the immediate aftermath of the original $700 million dollar bailout, which was originally sold on the basis that it would be used to pay off bad debt, governments that propose “spreading the wealth” under socialist-style financial reforms almost always collect the wealth under the pretext of being the saviors before greedily hoarding it all for themselves.
The GRA program is being pushed by the Economic Policy Institute, an organization housed on the third floor of the building occupied by the George Soros-funded Center for American Progress. The Center for American Progress is a think tank headed by Bill Clinton’s former chief of staff John D. Podesta, who was also head of Barack Obama’s presidential transition team after the 2008 election.
In preparing to seize private pensions, the United States is going the same way as Argentinean government, which in 2008 nationalized the country’s private pension plans, known as AFJPs, confiscating the wealth of millions.
“We have no doubt that here the right to private property is being violated. Not just for us but for society and the world, this is a clear confiscation,” said opposition Radical Party’s Ernesto Sanz at the time.
How will Americans react to having not only their wealth but their nest egg for future generations brazenly confiscated by the government in one fell swoop? If this doesn’t prompt widespread rioting and civil disobedience in America on behalf of the besieged middle class then nothing will.
Don’t be under any illusions, if you don’t have a private pension and think this won’t affect you – think again. Once the pretext has been created that the state can simply confiscate privately earned wealth, they can then come after anything, your gold, your home, your kids and eventually your very freedom. Oh what a day!
Because this is my favorite time of year, and because it was just absolutely beautiful today, I had to get out and take some pics. Just looking at the vibrant colors of the trees and the leaves falling makes you think about when you were a kid running through the piles of leaves.....laughing without a care in the world.
Fortunately, I live near a rails to trails path.........an old train track converted into a path for the public. Pennsylvania has taken considerable effort to convert these old unused train paths into useable paths for the public. These rails to trails paths are scattered all throughout Pennsylvania and they sure are fun to explore! It is great way to get out and take your mind off this crazy world.
This old train path has some old ghost towns with plenty of stories. There are even some old quarries and a suspension bridge. The path goes from Ridgway to Brockway and it is about 16 miles in length. Since it is rural, you may on occasion run into a few bikers, joggers and those desiring to catch a trout in the Toby Creek.
It is so therapeutic to just take your mind off this crazy world and think about lovely things. Next time, Lord willing, I want to check out the Samuel Justis Trail near Oil City, PA. A subversive world view
I never was one to join the crowd, nor was I ever one to feel this overwhelming need to capitulate to the pressures of this world. Although I must admit, that at some times I have indeed surrendered to certain pressures, particularly the need to look physically flawless and to have fashionable clothing (yes, that is me at 23 and I look like a foolish barbie doll). Ridiculous it seems, to dress up this decaying flesh that lasts only but a brief moment of your youth. But I can honestly say that I never had a complex about my shape until I was about 20, when everyone kept bugging me about it, even complete strangers. I just got so sick and tired of hearing about it that I finally caved in and focused all of my energies on looking beautiful. I am sure people nagged me about it because they themselves were/are programmed to think everyone is supposed to look like the images they see perpetually on TV and in magazines.
Looking back in my early twenties and now at my age of 38, I realize how foolish it was. The time I wasted to please everyone else. Do you know how much effort it takes to look flawless and in vogue. Talk about HIGH MAINTENANCE! But in reality, when I trimmed about 15 lbs and went to the tanning salon, people, particularly men who did not even care who I was, suddenly seemed quite interested. Their sudden interest in me communicated to me that I was only worthy of respect and love when I was skinny and granted 15 lbs is truly not that much, especially if you are tall. So at that time, I made a silent vow to myself that I would not get married and I have kept that vow.
This world is a shallow place, no doubt, and man looks on the outward appearance and makes judgments from that, but God looks on the heart. I wonder how much money is spent on grooming our politicians appearances with a strategy of making us desire them more. The world loves beautiful people and powerful people, they are attracted to that, and yet beauty and power lasts for only so long and then it fads away like a withering plant.
Our politicians keep appealing to our flesh........they tell us what we want to hear.......that is why we vote for them. Our government leaders know that the masses do not think for themselves. It is easier to join the crowd because it requires very little molecular currency in our brains. The synapses do not even have to fire! The shallowness, not only in thought but in character is fully accepted and revered. And politicians here and abroad know this as they are skilled in the art of chicanery. They know how to galvanize the people by grabbing their emotions and their minds will follow. And is it not true that your feelings can not always be trusted............just watching Ed Miliband, the Labor leader in England, galvanizing the people with the word optimism. People love that. People love Joel Osteen too. People love people who tell them what they want to hear. It massages our flesh. It makes us FEEL good!
Much of the intellectual elite have smothered the masses with their collective world view. This progressive thought has people quite entertained! They buy into it without any hesitation. But those who know Gods Truth are able to discern the lies because their world view comes from Gods perspective. Because I believe Gods Truth is Eternal, my beliefs will automatically be subversive in the school (crowds) of intellectual thought. I discovered this when I left comments at the Economist forum. This intellectual thought is progressive as globalization........a modern day socialist utopia. They believe that humanism and pragmatism can solve all the worlds ills! This world view is full of self-deification and self-aggrandizement believing that man is creative and intelligent enough to solve the worlds problems. It certainly does not recognize the absolute depravity of man and his inherent sinful ways, and his brevity, but rather seeks to praise the virtues of man and his innovation. This collective thought has its tentacles everywhere and its seducing spirit seeks inexorably to lead many away from God and His Truth.
Just recently Gordon Brown came to Harvard University to promote what else.........a global solution to a global problem!!!! We need a global constitution he says, and some years ago, Tony Blair said that too, as did both George Bush Sr. and Jr. Much like the Tower of Babel..........mans vain imaginations of glory and innovation in full blossom. But at the Tower of Babel, God confounded their tongues and their plans failed because they did not acknowledge God.
A worldview that is subversive will not be welcome because it goes against the tidal wave of collective thought. But unfortunately to some who see this progressive view destroying America and our roots, they may for awhile refuse to capitulate, but will ultimately end up joining the crowd as I did many years ago to please everyone else. They figure, if you can not beat em, may as well join em! The broad road of destruction is very wide indeed, but the road to life is extremely narrow and it takes a great deal of courage to take the narrow road. The only protection you have from conforming to this world is the Word of God.
Unfortunately, many Christians have joined the crowd of ecumenical thought because that is the popular route. Since everyone else is doing it, it must be right, they imagine. Never taking the time to perhaps discern if it is the right thing to do. Perhaps more and more people will find out that being autonomous may be better because you are not overwhelmed with the notion that you may loose some friends by way of offense. But if you never had any friends to begin with, you have not lost anything but rather gained the courage to go against the tide and take a stand and make your life count all the while truly solidifying in your mind your convictions about what you believe and what really matters to you.
