If the mainstream media were doing its job, then an expose like this would not be necessary. It is now absolutely essential for an individual, who really wants to understand what is going on in the world, to just simply pick up a book and read, for therein, much of the time, lies the Truth. This
President Ronald Reagan said, "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction." And how true that is. Reagan, being the one rare conservative president who saw the real threat of a Communist evil empire-the Soviet Union-and felt its cold wind blowing over America with dark foreboding clouds, strategically ordered economic sanctions to render Russia unable to abuse the citizens. These orders came in a "few targeted financial measures (including limiting natural gas deliveries to Western Europe and access to Western loans)...... [Within three years], the Soviet Union had collapsed without a shot being fired, bringing freedom to some 300 million people" (Gertz 140). Reagan understood the vital importance of America in the free world where communists, fascists, and evil dictators and conquerors have ravaged the world since the beginning. And America still is that last beacon of light shining for freedom, hence why so many immigrants and illegals come here to escape poverty and starvation at the hands of their communist dictators. Some, however, abuse the system and take advantage of America's tolerance as we have witnessed in drug cartels at the border and human trafficking.
Unfortunately, the valiant efforts of Reagan have all but been nullified from subsequent administrations that were pro-China, and who used appeasement measures in a very misguided attempt to democratize China into a free market economy. Over the last three decades, China has amassed much more power, both economically and politically, and is using it to build up its military and technological might. From unfair trade practices to manipulating their currency keeping it artificially low, to massive intellectual property theft in the trillions of dollars from US companies, and to coerced-technology transfers from American companies, all of which have been largely unchallenged since the 1980s by the groupthink that strangles Washington and the sycophants who are puppets for Chinamyhn. As a result, China has attacked America economically and at this point, they may be winning without even firing one shot. The worst part is that "Chinese enterprises are quietly penetrating the American capital market-pension funds, hedge funds, mutual funds, state public retirement systems, index funds, and over-the-counter trading markets-with little or no regulatory review concerning the national security dangers certain of them posed" (Gertz 141). And how is this possible? In 2012, a man named Roger W. Robinson Jr., who is a former Chase Manhattan international banker, and who also worked closely with Reagan as senior director of International Economic Affairs for the National Security Council staff in the early 1980s, used a unique software tool called IntelTrak to track and map all Chinese and Russian transactions globally every day (141). It was through this process that Robinson and his investigators came to discover the aforementioned facts.
According to Gertz, the Chinese entities that are involved in our capital markets are the PLA (People's Liberation Army) contractors; firms engaged in militarizing the illegal islands of the South China Sea; cyber hackers; US sanction violators; advanced weapons manufacturers; intellectual property thieves; underwriters of North Korea and Iran; and firms linked to high-level corruption (141). Gertz mentions much more in this particular chapter (10, Financial and Economic Warfare with Chinese Characteristics) but for brevity, I will just mention these important facts. These facts worth mentioning, according to Gertz, being that if "Americas' pension funds and other investment portfolios are permitted to become awash in Chinese securities over the next three years to four years, scores of millions of Americans would have a vested financial interest in lobbying to thwart US sanctions or penalties being imposed on Beijing for its malevolent behavior for fear that their retirement accounts and other investments would lose value" (142). This thinking follows logic because most know that it is easy to manipulate and control the masses through money and food.
Once China has control, they can implement their nefarious plans to dominate the world and enslave the masses with the totalitarian regime that has already been rolled out in China through the Huawei 5G network, artificial intelligence, facial recognition, big data mining, a "social credit system of personal control that is seeking to emulate what Soviet leaders once called the forced creation of New Soviet Man" (85), and enough big-brother digitized cameras (600 million) that have made the nightmare scenario of Orwell's 1984 come true for the Chinese citizens.
But this hasn't happened overnight; it has been a process over several decades of quietly achieving its objective. In chapter 2, The East is Red, Gertz provides a historical background so the reader can understand the current political condition in China. It started in 1949 with Mao Zedong, who "aligned his regime with the Soviet Union, which was regarded as the vanguard of the global communist revolution" (19). Mao competed with Josef Stalin over ideological correctness (orthodox Marxism-Leninism), but Mao eventually broke with Nikita Khrushchev in 1963 because Khrushchev denounced Stalin for his grotesque war crimes. From that time forward, the Chinese Politburo informed the Kremlin that the CCP would lead the world communist revolution.
In the 1960s and 1970s, the CCP aligned with socialist dictatorships all over the world by supplying military enforcements and economic aid. This was evidenced in Vietnam when America tried unsuccessfully to eliminate communism (20). It was president, Dwight Eisenhower, who presented the domino theory in 1954 which stated that if one nation fell to communism, then the rest in the region were likely to follow. As such, nearby Los and Cambodia eventually fell to communism in 1974. Mao was then replaced by Deng Xiaoping, and by the late 2010s, China had turned into a superpower from a backward totalitarian state, "Deng's mutation of the virus of communism as more pragmatic was captured in the propaganda phrase, 'It doesn't matter if the cat is black or white as long as it catches mice" (20). Obviously, the undercurrents of the communist ideology hadn't changed, just the outward appearance which has created the massive deception that has seduced many a politician and corporations into the communist ideology believing China is a democracy and does not see America as the enemy. That couldn't be further from the Truth.
Xi Jinping, who came to power in 2012 and whose admirers include Josef Stalin, Adolph Hitler, and Mao Zedong, all mass murderers, has a degree in Marxist theory and was awarded a Doctor of Laws, which Gertz states
To not see that this is setting the stage for a centralized communist dictatorship would be naive, "it [the social credit system] has placed the Party on the path of achieving greater totalitarian control" (86). This system is expanding and becoming more invasive even with the help of US technology. Some companies doing this either wittingly, or unwittingly. The most egregious is with Google whose censored search engine, Dragonfly, was specifically developed for the CCP and is assisting in the suppression of freedom by using algorithms that filter only for the CCP's political narrative. Google, astonishingly, collaborated with the CCP even after Chinese military hackers broke into Google stealing valuable source code (91). This has produced an even greater Fire Wall in China creating an "information desert that has forced its citizens to rely on a propaganda and information control system devoid of free speech and open communication" (90). When people are only allowed access to one kind of reporting or "news", they will believe it as gospel truth. It is unfortunate that most people are not capable of thinking for themselves, hence why governments love to use propaganda and algorithms to control the populace. Even Hitler was quoted as saying, "how fortunate for the government when the masses don't think for themselves." Behavior psychology plays a large role in this and the CCP knows that mind control works. It is now at the point in China where only those with
Google wasn't the only company hacked. Twenty more American companies were targeted in cyberattacks under Operation Aurora. The software code for Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 was found to have a "lucrative security flaw amid the millions of o's and i's" by PLA researchers (91). In other words, highly paid sophisticated Chinese hackers, under the guidance and direction of the CCP and its entities, have found numerous vulnerabilities in American technology companies and they are exploiting these vulnerabilities for their own advantage. Not only are they hacking and stealing, but they are in turn using the leverage gained as manipulation and power over others and, our own presidents, previous and current, are allowing this to happen, causing America to potentially fall into the hands of the communists.
The Clinton administration, which was completely supportive of China joining the WTO, predicted that a fully wired China would result in liberty and democracy. This turned out to be a massive failure, "it contributed to the growth of totalitarian controls in China and the massive theft through cyber espionage of American technology" and it "caused some of the most egregious and damaging errors in American relations with China" (89). Because China has developed superior technology through cyber theft and deceit, essentially unrestricted warfare, they have amassed more power and control and they are selling their Orwellian technology to authoritarian governments around the world in an effort to control their citizens. This goal of combining big data to social governance is stated quite lucidly in a 2017 "Action Plan to Promote the Development of Big Data" (87). So, clearly, the steps have been laid out for China to achieve its objective. Only now, they want to implement this "Action Plan" to all citizens of the world, denying freedom to not only the Chinese citizens but to all citizens of the world.
But it wasn't just the Clinton administration that enabled a Chinese communist regime to amass more wealth and power, the Obama administration did more of the same, only they "went so far in appeasing China that the White House issued an order prohibiting all officials from publicly talking about
The CCP is an existential threat to the world because of its Marxist/Leninist political and economic system. The only difference is that it has Chinese characteristics added to the Marxist/Leninists politics which is perhaps why many are in denial about the danger lurking in the CCP regime as Gertz mentions (5). They can not see the hidden ideology for what it is, and if this threat is not addressed, the digital age could soon be controlled completely by totalitarians who use torture methods to punish any dissent.
The CCP's objective is to reward those who tow the party line while punishing those who do not. The system seeks to coerce the behavior of the Chinese citizens to conform to the CCP's nefarious demands. And some of those demands are ridiculous, such as failing to leash a pet while walking to smoking on trains. But most of these demands deny essential freedoms that necessitate human rights. Over one million Muslim Uighurs in northwestern China have been imprisoned, tortured, raped, and even killed. They have also been subjected to universal health examinations which is really a "massive biological surveillance program" (88). The Falun Gong, who practice meditation combined with moral philosophy, have been persecuted, raped, tortured, and killed. Many have even been subjected to live organ harvesting. China also, for 35 years, implemented a one-child policy. That resulted in millions of forced abortions and the slaughter of innocent babies, many of which were thrown out in fields still alive with the umbilical cord still attached.
The MSM has largely ignored these serious human rights abuses and nothing around the world has been done to ameliorate the abusive and draconian living conditions of the Chinese people whose freedoms are violated every day. How can the world forget what happened at the Tiananmen Square massacre in Beijing when students protesting for democracy, freedom of speech, and freedom of Press, were brutally killed in 1989? If China was that bad then, after amassing more and more power, it is only a matter of time before they seek total world domination through whatever means it deems necessary, "China has reverted to its Maoist roots and has become a more repressive dictatorship domestically as it seeks world domination abroad" (3). Keep in mind that the communist world destroys all freedoms, including freedom of religion because communists are atheists and simply have no respect for those who worship God, who is above the government and sinful man.
More than likely, this is the main reason why China hates the Unites States; the Constitution and the Bill of Rights guarantee individual freedom, namely freedom to worship whom and how you please. But as evidenced by the recent Coronavirus restrictions and lockdowns, China's influence has already metastasized like gangrene into the United States with the repudiation of individual's rights to worship by forcing churches to stay shut down while keeping all the jam-packed Walmarts open, which get most of their supply from China, "the People's Republic of China is defined as totalitarian by its system of police control unconstrained by the rule of law and by absolute authority imposed over the entire economy" (Gertz 6). As witnessed by many, pastors who refused to shut down their churches to maintain their Sunday serves were either, heavily fined, violating their 8th amendment rights, or arrested and imprisoned, violating their 1st amendment rights. This happened not only in America, but Canada as well, and even in the UK. Law-abiding citizens treated with the utmost contempt while simultaneously allowing violent criminals released from prison. These actions violated individual's Constitutional rights and destroyed many people's economic security while helping China prosper. Many small businesses will never reopen again.
I believe this was allowed to happen because the individuals/policymakers and corporations care more about profit through financial investment and lucrative contracts with China than they do about regular Joe or Jane on Main Street. They care little about the immoral implications that will result in the destruction of freedoms for not only them but their children as well. Political decisions are made without any consideration of the long-term consequences; just immediate tangible monetary reward seems to be the order of the day. And those consequences are not just individual economic and wealth destruction and loss of freedoms, but they may very well result in outright war with thermonuclear weapons.
Just as China has amassed power by political, economic, and technological means, it has also built up its military through patience and persistence. The CCP has shown itself to be a deceitful aggressor that can not be trusted to maintain peace among nations. They have given false promises of peace and have lied one too many times. One such example is in the South China Sea. Xi Jinping promised Obama in September 2015 that the "reclaimed" South China Sea islands would not be militarized. But by 2017, satellite imagery and Pentagon reports showed long runways of about 8,800 feet capable of holding large military cargo planes and troop transports, several short-range (anti-ship) naval guns, long-ran missile systems with a range of 340 miles, cruise missiles (SAMs), aircraft hangers, several army barracks, several administration buildings, and much more (Gertz 200). All of this militarization clearly threatens not only the United States but the rest of the world because the South China Sea serves as a major trade thoroughfare for roughly $5 trillion in supplies, "never in history has a nation tried to take control of an entire sea regarded as
And just as Imperial Japan threatened our shipping lanes with Australia, so too does China. With their aggressive move to take over the South China Sea and democratic Taiwan, they are threatening both commercial civilian aircraft and military aircraft that come anywhere near there. This aggression was also evidenced in 2012 when Chinese warships took control of the Scarborough Shoal from the Philippines and President Benigno S. Aquino III at that time asked the United States to help by invoking the 1951 US-Philippines Mutual Defense Treaty to take back the shoal but Obama refused (201). These appeasement measures are tantamount to the appeasement shown to Hitler by world leaders just before WW II broke out. Hitler violated the treaty of Versailles by building up his military creating a Nazi juggernaut and the naive appeasement measures brought forth in the Munich agreement did little to stop Hitler's ambition of consolidating his power by taking more and more land. A gullible, naive Neville Chamberlain believed he had achieved peace with Hitler while boasting to the press his "diplomatic" accomplishments. Instead of seeing the Nazi threat for what it clearly was, the powers of Europe willingly conceded to Hitler's demands for the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia to maintain "peace in our time." When will the people ever learn that history doesn't just rhyme like Mark Twain says, it, in fact, repeats itself over and over, again and
Looking back, we see the Maoist ideology, steeped in ancient strategy, behind the mass murder that brought the communists to power in 1949, had "driven the Chinese leadership in Beijing to order force against the United States, first in Korea and later when Chinese military forces provided air and air defense support to Hanoi in the Vietnam War" (3). It is clear that the CCP considers the United States its arch-enemy, and the willful ignorance of the gullible and naive leaders in Washington, both Democrat and Republican alike, and even the FBI and CIA, have granted China the useable and available power to potentially destroy our country. The US intelligence failures are pernicious and pathetic, "beyond their inability to cope with Chinese spying, the FBI, which is in charge of counterespionage domestically, and the CIA, which conducts counterintelligence abroad, both have a sorry record of disasters in their efforts to spy on China" (106). One such example is with Wen Ho Lee, a Los Alamos nuclear scientist charged with passing secrets to China (similar to Klaus Fuchs who gave the atomic bomb secrets from the Manhattan Project to Stalin). The FBI mishandled the investigation into Lee so the case was rendered useless when Lee was charged with the minor offense of mishandling classified documents (106). Another breach was with Katrina Leung, who was secretly working for Chinese intelligence here in America. Her case collapsed, just like Lee's did, and she was charged with lesser offenses. Her double-agent activities "undermined twenty years of intelligence regarding China because she provided false and misleading intelligence to the highest levels of the US government, including the White House, and at the same time, succeeded in discrediting all of the FBI's other recruited agents in China" (106). These actions are egregious coming from our American intelligence and eventually led to about 30 recruited CIA agents inside China being uncovered, imprisoned, and killed. This was a significant coup, according to Gertz, and an "action that prevented the US government from collecting human intelligence on the ground in China at a crucial time when the PLA and MSS (Ministry of State Security)
The CCP has tricked the world one too many times through subterfuge and the world, especially America, has fallen prey to its deception through a smokescreen of peace, "for China today, the strategy reflects the Marxist maxim that the ends justify the means" (4). A pragmatic model cares little for morality. It only cares about results by whatever means possible. And one such example is the Belt and Road Initiative by which China is spending trillions of dollars in the developing world with the sole purpose of "imposing large-scale debt on poor countries" so that these "debt-ridden states are becoming global military bases for power projection" (7). This amounts to posturing and intimidation and as time goes on, the CCP gets bolder and bolder. Like a child, the more they get away with bad behavior, the more bad behavior results.
On January 11, 2007, China launched a secret weapon developed by the PLA's General Armament Department called the SC-19 direct-ascent anti-satellite missile. Only this missile's trajectory was not headed towards the Gobi desert. It flew into space and destroyed its target-the orbiting Fengyun-1C weather satellite. Through the satellite's destruction, a high-speed orbiting debris field like a ring around the earth will "threaten both manned and unmanned spacecraft for decades to come" (Gertz 10). Despite this aggression, nothing was done. In fact, this event remained secret for 6 days before anyone would know about it. And, of course, China denied it which proves the CCP Communist regime is built on lies, all the while perpetuating the myth that communism will create peace and a utopian future. And if this event doesn't awaken the masses that China can cause an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) or potentially knock out a satellite that controls a large portion of our grid system resulting in the shut down of many services, from banking to utilities, then I can only conclude that the masses are either, too apathetic, or they are on too much Prozac.
We should never forget what the Japanese admiral Isoroku Yamamoto said to his men who bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941, "Gentlemen, I am afraid we have awakened a sleeping giant with a terrible resolve." This line depicted in the 1970 film Tora, Tora, Tora and, the recent 2019 film Midway. Yamamoto said this because he was a student studying English at Harvard from 1919-1921. He knew Imperial Japan was no match for the United States. And so does China, hence the decades-long unrestricted warfare. But time is running out for America; passivity does nothing. Rather, it allows the enemy to gain more ground. We need to stand up and fight for our freedoms and we need to be acutely aware of the evils around us every day. But most importantly, we need to stop being gullible and naive. You can look down through the corridors of history and see that evil proliferates because history always repeats itself. And why? Because good men and women do nothing.
There is so much more Gertz mentions in his book and there simply is not enough room to cover it all, like more U.S. intelligence failures to serious omissions in Pentagon reports, to ignoring clear sanction violations (Iran) while still doing business with such violators. But, like I said before, I would encourage you to read the book because I feel we are sitting on a powder keg and all it will take is one fuse to explode, just as a magma camber builds up pressure in a volcano or a subduction zone or transverse, strike-slip fault zone builds up pressure, no one knows when it will explode or crack but we know one thing for sure, it will crack and explode, and the consequences will be nothing short of disastrous.
"Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through
